This kit demonstrates the physical nature of high molecular weight DNA and the process of DNA purification by spooling on a glass rod. REQUIREMENTS: 2 - 100ml glass beakers for pre-lab preparation; glass beakers for spooling (options: 3 - 50ml beakers for 3 spoolings, 10 - 20ml beakers for 10 spoolings, 30 - 12 x 75mm test tubes for 30 spoolings); 10ml pipet, pipet pump or bulb; 95-100% isopropanol (70% isopropanol rubbing alcohol can be substituted); distilled or deionized water; test tubes for rehydrating spooled DNA; additional glass rods or Pasteur pipets for more than 5 spoolings.
