Animals in Action

Limited Supply.

1986. GEMS. While watching animals in a large classroom corral, the class adds different stimulus objects to the "corral environment" and observes the animals' responses. Teams of students generate hypotheses, conduct experiments, and hold a scientific convention to discuss their findings. Simple investigations students can do include how animals move, what they prefer to eat, and how they respond to light and sound. Students learn to distinguish between direct observations and assumptions, as they differentiate evidence (what they observe) from inferences (conclusions they draw from their observations). Animals studied include rats, crickets and guinea pigs. 64 pages, soft cover, b&w photos and illustrations. Five sessions, grades 5-9.
