A fascinating simulation that provides an open framework for discovering and mastering genetics concepts. Students design the genetic system for an imaginary "Kangasaurus," manipulate variables, observe effects and predict the outcomes of crosses to test hypotheses. Students may work from either "cause to effect" or "effect to cause." Features extensive use of visual images that are effective in enhancing students' reasoning and help them to see new relationships. Variables include number and size of autosomes; sex chromosome system; gene type, locus and function; number of alleles; gene lethality, linkage and crossing over. Lab activities are provided.
