Analysis of Restriction Enzyme Cleavage Patterns of DNA - for 6 Gels (6 Lanes per Gel)

BT102

Edvotek Series 100 Experiments. For 6 Gels (6 lanes per gel). Time Required after gel preparation and electrophoresis: Staining -- 15 min. Destaining -- 30 min.

Restriction enzymes are endonucleases that recognize and cut double-stranded DNA within, or close to, defined base sequences. They are essential tools in molecular cloning and the mapping of genes. This kit contains several DNAs digested with various restriction enzymes, for demonstrating the patterns and frequency of cleavage. Digests are separated by agarose gel electrophoresis.

REQUIREMENTS: Horizontal gel electrophoresis apparatus; D.C. power supply; staining tray and net; visualization system (white light); automatic micropipets with tips; pipet pumps or bulbs; 250ml flasks; hot gloves and safety goggles; distilled or deionized water; microwave oven or hot plate; 65°C waterbath; photodocumentation system (optional); balance; latex or vinyl gloves; visualization system (optional); large weigh boats for destaining.

CONTENTS: Ready-to-load Pre-digested DNA Samples; Practice Gel Loading Solution; UltraSpec-Agarose™ Powder; Concentrated 50x Electrophoresis Buffer; Methylene Blue Plus™; DNA Blue InstaStain™; 1ml Pipet; 100ml Graduated Packaging Cylinder; Microtipped Transfer Pipets; Complete instructions, background information, and study questions.
